OUR STORY

Family-owned and operated

The Shepherd's Barn is a small family farm with a passion for serving God, people and the animals we raise.  It is our mission and vision to raise our animals with the upmost care and the most natural settings so that every animal on our farm enjoys sunlight, green grass and playtime!  We currently raise chickens for meat and eggs.  We do most of our chicken meat raising through the spring, summer and fall to ensure the best living conditions for the birds.  The egg layers are completely free-range birds feeding off grass, bugs and other vegetation around our 18 acre farm.  And while our meat birds do have a separate area, it is for their safety from predators as they are not as able to flee from the predators as the egg layers are.  And while the meat birds are separated they have the same opportunities as the full free-range egg layers do with plenty of space outside for munching on the grass, bugs and vegetation. 

 

 We also have begun to raise sheep!  The lamb meat we produce is 100% grass fed and finished.  The play outside and eat on grass during spring and summer and during winter months are filled with hay and absolutely zero grain.  We feel the best way to raise anything is in it's most natural state and without added hormones, steroids, antibiotics and such.

MEET THE FAMILY

ELLA & LUKE

Meet Ella and Luke.  Our two amazing children that never bat an eye at helping around the farm.  Ella is always the first to want to care for the animals regardless of the situation and faithfully helps do chores around the farm daily.  Luke is our spunky, high energy child, up for chasing any animal that may need to be caught around the farm.  Both are so vibrant even at 4 am when we wake them up to help load the chickens to be processed.

JONATHAN & REBECCA

Jonathan and Rebecca have been married for 12 years and have slowly grown into the life of farming.  Around 2019, upon arriving in South Vienna, Ohio, they started to embrace the idea of farming and taking it to a whole new level.  They started with a small flock of meat birds just for themselves when they realized that the quality of meat was so much better and healthier.  They wanted to be able to offer it to others desiring local chicken meat raised on green grass, healthy non-gmo feed, and sunlight.  Now the farm is growing and they have recently added lamb meat to their selection of meats.

 

Both Jonathan and Rebecca not only farm but work full time jobs and homeschool their children as well as stay active in the church they attend.
